Official: Bristol better than Hollywood

Forget Los Angeles try Bristol.

Yes, Bristol.

Because Bristol has been named as a ‘UNESCO City of Film’. It’s a permanent award which recognizes the city’s unique contribution to the moving image. It’s an exclusive club of 13 cities around the world, all renowned for their unique contributions to international film. The City of Film group is part of a larger network of UNESCO Creative Cities (a network that does not include LA).

We’re delighted with this news because the axisVFX team has been at the heart of the Bristol filmmaking community since 2010. And we were even more delighted to attend the official launch event.

The launch event marked the start of a four-year programme of development in the city that will promote Bristol as a centre of excellence and develop new film and TV talent, as well as hosting a series of film and media festivals.

This programme has now received blue-blooded endorsement with the recent visit by the His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent, who visited The Bottleyard Studios, Bristol’s largest media facility, which also happens to be our home! ‘HRH’ (as we affectionately call him) toured the facilities, including the axisVFX office, and met some of our team.

One of the criteria for becoming a UNESCO City of Film is ‘a commitment to cultural diversity and sustainable urban development’. We support those ideals and are proud to have helped build this amazing city into one of the world’s finest cultural centres.

Come on Hollywood, if you want some advice, give us a call!
